Students of Jamia Milia Islamia University have alleged that the administration was ‘suppressing their voices’ by not allowing them to host events.
Students said on Wednesday that they had organised a public meeting on ‘Shrinking Democratic Spaces in Universities’ where speakers such as Apoorva Anand, Saroj Giri, and A.K. Ramakrishna were invited.
However, a day prior to the event, the students claimed they received an intimation from the Proctor, Dean of Students Welfare and the Security Advisor that the event could not be held as the speakers were not from within the university.
Students claimed that this was an attempt to ‘suppress the students right to hold public meetings or free speech on university campus’.
