The non-implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission especially as far as the teaching faculty and long-term pensioners (since January 2016) are concerned is painful. All their appeals to the Ministries of Human Resource Development and Finance have had no effect. The move by pensioners through their respective federations was done at an all-India level in Chennai on July 21.
To be honest, most of us who are affected, namely long-term pensioners, have one foot in the grave. Many have passed away due to old age, illnesses and even financial troubles. Thus their dependants have been deprived of family pension, arrears and other benefits. The government cannot afford to ignore the pensioners’ plight and must do something through an ordinance.
