TGIF. Did you know that that means Thank God It’s Friday?I didn’t. I thought it meant restaurant in Romanian or something. Now that I know what it means, I can say: Boy, am I glad it’s Friday. This has been one of those weeks. My English Unit Review tested me on unseen comprehension… and I had no answers for my teacher to see. I had to create a collage out of recycled material (maybe I should have used my English answer sheet) and I was so busy thinking about what I was going to build in Mind Craft over the weekend, that I forgot to copy down the math sums my teacher had written on the board. Sometimes, I wish my Elder wand could summon spells and charms. Here are five I would definitely use.
Evanesco: Wouldn’t it be great if you could transfigure things into disappearing? Things like annoying little brothers who are ALWAYS following you like a shadow? Or playground bullies who try to take your Beyblading spot? Or yourself, when your French teacher asks you to conjugate a verb, and all you know is Bonjour.
Silencio: That D is such a snitch. Always telling on me to English Ma’am. ‘Ma’am, he’s not writing!’ ‘Ma’am, he is looking out the window.’ One silencing charm on D and I can dream in peace.
Extendable Ears: Ok, this isn’t a spell, but how cool would it be if George and Fred Weasley’s extendable ears actually existed? All the Std IV girls like to sit together and chit chat in whispers. And when the boys walk by, they stop and glare at us. WHAT are they talking about?
Alohomora: Amma has declared that she will no longer help us look for things. I think she finally lost it after she spent two hours looking for our ninja star fidget spinner, and then I realised it was in my pocket the whole time. With alohomora I can find things without having to actually look for them. Now, if only there was a spell to lose things. Like Amma’s bad mood.
Scourgify: Totally useful after you try to make a grape smoothie by yourself but forget to lock the lid of the blender. Do you know how far blended grapes can travel? Let me tell you: FAR. Instead of spending the next two hours scrubbing it off the underside of kitchen cupboards, I’d use this cleaning charm. I wonder, can I use it on myself? That way I won’t need to actually have a bath and clean behind my ears.
What are your favourite spells? And if anyone out there has a spell that magically does your homework, send me an owl and tell me. Now, excuse me while I practise my obliviate charm. I’m going to show Amma my English Unit Review answer paper!
