Six members of same family killed in road accident in Andhra

Six members of a family, including a two-year-old girl, were killed in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh's West Godavari district this afternoon, police said.

The deceased, all females, were returning to their native village in neighbouring Krishna district after attending a function when the SUV they were travelling in lost control and plunged into a roadside pond, police said.


The driver of the vehicle was suspected to be in an inebriated condition and this led to the mishap, they said.

The driver, however, jumped out of the vehicle in time and saved himself. However, police later took him into custody.

The accident happened at Kovvali village under Denduluru mandal, about 70km from here, and the deceased belonged to Mallavalli village in Krishna district.

Two other passengers in the ill-fated SUV had a providential escape.

YSR president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy expressed grief over the accident and conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family.

Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa, who handles home portfolio, spoke to the West Godavari district superintendent of police and enquired about the accident.
