Vidyabodhini High School, Sullia, teacher Purarandara Narayana Bhat K received the National Award for the Best teacher (2016), from Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, at the Teachers Day programme organised at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, recently.

Union Minister for Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar and Minister of State Upendra Kushwaha were present.

The award comprises a silver medal, a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a certificate of merit.

Bhat has come up with innovative teaching methods for Science and Mathematics, such as preparation of models.

Earlier, he had received Rajiv Gandhi Memorial State-level Best Science Teacher Award in 2010. Bhat is a graduate assistant at Vidyabodhini School.
