Investigation into the twelfth standard student Chandini Jain’s murder is not yet completed, even as her former classmate in 10th standard was arrested in the case.
Building up the case, the Ameenpur police of Sanga Reddy district on Thursday summoned one of her seniors, Naga Sai, for examination. Sai was one year senior to Chandini at school. On completion of plus two, he joined the Bachelor of Business Administration course in Bengaluru.
After Chandini’s disappearance from the evening of September 9, police began analysing her mobile phone call data record. She sent a text message to Naga Sai, stating that she would not be able to meet him on Saturday since she had planned to meet ‘another friend’ the same day.
“That message assumed importance, and to find out further details, we summoned Naga Sai,” Ameenpur Inspector Ram Reddy said. Investigators found that Naga Sai had returned to the city from Bengaluru for a break and rang up his ‘school friends’ — former classmates, juniors — stating that he was planning a get-together.
Among others, he spoke to Chandini also. She initially intended, investigators believe, to be present at the get-together but changed the plan eventually since she decided to meet her former 10th standard classmate.
“Apparently, she never imagined that she was going to be killed at the hands of that former classmate whom we eventually arrested,” Mr. Ram Reddy said. The mobile phone of Naga Sai on which he received the message from Chandini was seized and sent to forensic experts for examination.
Investigators are also planning to examine another student of twelfth standard, Sohail, in the case. Chandini had met this boy during the United Nations mock session organised at Central Court hotel in Lakdikapool of Hyderabad.
“She got introduced to him during the event. They communicated with each other over the phone. This boy’s statement could be of circumstance evidence value in the case,” said the investigators.
Police are likely to examine another senior of Chandini in school, Piyoosh, in the case. They learnt that Piyoosh was pursuing degree first year now and hope he would throw more light on the circumstances leading to Chandini murder.
