The GHMC’s traffic and transportation wing is taking up the improvement of major junctions in the city, in order to facilitate seamless traffic movement.

Thirty junctions in all have been selected in the first phase of the ‘Urban Junction Improvement Plan’ and a consultant Urban Mass Transit Company Limited has been appointed to prepare detailed junction improvement plans.

Objectives of the plan are reducing overall journey time, facilitation of free left, improving pedestrian facilities and other road safety infrastructure, a press statement from the corporation said.

Plans are being drawn keeping in view the increasing traffic over the next five to seven years.

The junction improvement plan envisages pedestrian refugee islands, footpaths, pedestrian guard-rail and pelican crossings.

The junction improvements would also include increasing the width of carriageway, improvement of free lefts by providing left turn channelisers, road markings and sign boards for improved traffic movement.
