New trek route being constructed between Nazang to Malpa

A new route is being constructed between Nazang and Malpa here to facilitate the movement of those living in high-altitude areas of the Vyas Valley and restore normal supplies to security forces deployed along the Indo-border.

The 6-km route between the two places was last month washed away in a cloudburst, in which nine people were killed.

The incident hit supplies to Army personnel, prompting the administration to press into service choppers as a stopgap alternative.

"The new trek route will be ready in 15 days well before the annual migration of high-altitude dwellers begins in October. Army and PWD personnel are working on the assignment on a war footing," Nainital MP and former chief minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari told reporters here.

"Like the original trek route, the new one also covers a distance of 6 km. The only difference is that it will go through a hilltop instead of running along the Kali river and will be much safer," he said.
