The Madras High Court on Thursday issued orders to Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal not to conduct the floor test till September 20.

The opposition DMK had approached the court to direct the speaker to convene the House and prove the majority of the government.

The advocate general Vijay Narayan asked the court for time to get the advice of the Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao.

Kapil Sibal, who appeared for DMK alleged that Edappadi K Palaniswami's government is attempting to gain the majority by disqualifying 19 rebel MLAs who supported "ousted" leader Dhinakaran and to hold trust vote after that.

Opposing Sibal's argument, government counsel said it is not related to the case and sought more time to get the instructions from the Governor.
