Collapsed parapet wall at Children’s Park poses danger to unwary visitors

Parks on Beach Road are the pride of the city. A stroll along Beach Road and visit to the Children’s Park is a habit for many.

With a big, attractive statue of a baby it is a favourite with children. Many senior citizens also visit it.

One of the main reasons for is popularity is its proximity to the Ramakrishna Beach and the bus stop.

However, the parapet wall close to the staircase leading to be beach from the park collapsed.

The wall collapsed around two months ago due to rains and since then has not been repaired, it was learnt.

The portion with the collapsed wall poses a danger to children and the unwary visitors and also spoils the look of the Children’s Park.

Besides, the appearance of that part of the park from the beach side is shabby.

Immediate repair is necessary to ensure safety as well as restore the spick-and-span look of the park.

Since the slipping of the earth on the other side of the staircase is also noticed it may also be strengthened to prevent the repeat there.

The park was originally built by the Lions Club and was inaugurated by the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1970s.
