JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda on Wednesday said his party would join the indefinite protest being staged by MLCs on issues related to the education department, if the government fails to fulfil their demands.

Gowda, who met 13 MLCs (representing the teachers and graduates constituencies) in front of the Gandhi statue in Vidhana Soudha, took exception to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for refusing to either meet the protesters or send any representatives to listen to their demands.

The MLCs had been trying to draw the attention of the government towards the issues being faced by the teachers and students for the last one year, both inside and outside the House.

“They are seeking a permanent solution to many problems in the education sector. But the government has paid no heed. This is the first time that legislators themselves are staging such an agitation. If the chief minister fails to address these issues on September 15, then the JD(S) will take over the issue,” he added.
