Two women constables caught a man for trying to steal the purse of a passenger at Matunga station at 11.45 a.m. on September 7.

During interrogation, the man admitted that he had also committed a theft at Dadar station a few days ago.

Railway Protection Force constable Swati Patil and Mahila Vahini staff member Pooja Sharma were on duty at the station when they heard a commotion and shouts of ‘chor, chor’. By the time they reached the spot, a few passengers had caught the man and began beating him. The contables then handed over the accused to the Government Railway Police in Dadar. He was arrested under Section 379 of IPC.

The accused was identified as Arvind Kishore Pawse, 29, who lived on the footpath outside Matunga station and picked pockets to survive. The police recovered the wallet containing ₹5,300 stolen from Dadar station and handed it over to its owner Damodar Arya, 53, from Rabale in Navi Mumbai.
