Youth jumps in front of train, dies

A 25-year-old youth jumped in front of a moving train near the Hope College Junction on Monday. According to sources, those who were in the vicinity informed the Coimbatore Railway Police, who rushed to the spot, recovered the severed body and sent it to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for post mortem.

They have launched an inquiry to ascertain the identity of the victim.

One arrested

Kuniamuthur Police have arrested A. Aashiq of Telugupalayam on charges of robbing Sikkandar, an autorickshaw driver, of his vehicle and ₹1,200 at knife point near the Puttu Vikki bridge on Monday night.

Following a complaint lodged with Police by Sikkandar, an alert was made across the city. A few hours later, a policeman in Nanjundapuram stopped an autorickshaw and after recognising the vehicle to be the stolen one, informed the Kuniamuthur Police, the sources added.

Killed in accidents

M. Somasundari (35) of Neelikonampalayam was killed after she came under the wheels of a speeding town bus in Singanallur on Tuesday morning.

The Coimbatore City Traffic Police said that the woman, who was riding pillion on her father Sankaran’s two-wheeler, lost balance and fell off the vehicle as the rider negotiated a pot hole. She died on the spot. Police have registered a case in this connection.

In another accident, a J. Aneesh, a Plus One student, was killed in an accident involving a two-wheeler and lorry near R.G. Pudur on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred when he attempted to take a turn at the R.G. Pudur junction.
