The Mathura railway station is likely to get a facelift, with a special centre for breastfeeding mothers in the complex and other amenities, an official of the North Central Railway (NCR) said today.
The new-look junction will include a changing room for women and every platform will have a milk parlour, Mathura Junction station director N P Singh said.
The commercial department of the Agra Division of NCR has submitted a proposal for the revamp to the NCR headquarters in Allahabad, he said.
"A woman facilitation centre is on the cards to help woman feed a child," Singh said.
Five automatic ticket vending machines installed at different points in the station will help passengers, he said.
To help pilgrims coming in from rural areas, retired railway personnel will be appointed to help them operate the machines, he said.
Singh said the help of voluntary organisations and other groups will be taken to keep the station clean. Students and staff of the GLA University, Mathura, are already cleaning the station twice a month voluntarily and the Nayati Hospital has sent a proposal for helping with the cleaning, he said.
A proposal also has been sent to the Railway Division Officer, Agra, for painting the walls of the station with Krishna's portraits, he said.
He added that steps were being taken for enhanced safety measures, focusing on integrated block work -- including signal and telecommunications, overhead equipment work, etc.
"Intensive checking of the tracks is being ensured at least 20 days in a month," Singh said.
Mathura, known for its Krishna temples, has been chosen as one of the heritage cities for the government's Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana scheme.
