Retired banker Gita V Reddy’s children’s books have impressed Hyderabadis for their quirky content

Retiring as a Chief Manager in the banking industry, Gita V Reddy found a love in writing children’s books, adding, “I write for adults too, but kids are my main passion.” With 24 books on Kindle, five are picture books for children. The ethos of these books come from when Gita’s own son was growing up. Gita has also done illustrations for most of the books herself, while illustrator Abira Das has also chipped in.

She had observed a scarcity in picture books for children while there’s a bigger variety of educational ones, adding a child should be able to follow a story while holding the book, especially in an age kids are drawn to their tablets. Additionally with books being collectors’ items as well recent books are physically large, making her lighter publications an easy portable. The books are also surprisingly affordable while being sweet keepsakes.

Values

Gita’s books do not aim to educate but to entertain and present a conversation starter for kids.

Which is P, which is Q follows the dilemma of a little girl who confuses her letters. Through her frustration and later understanding, the girl comes to make out the difference— something with which many children will empathise.

Another story The Magician’s Turban orients around the theme of magic and tricks. The short chapter book for older children aims to present senses of accomplishment when each chapter is done. Gits shares her shortening of chapters is intentional, proving she wants her readers to enjoy her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

Gita V Reddy’s books are available at Amazon in both Kindle and Paperback.
