HC to monitor progress of Ardh Kumbh mela work in Allahabad

The High today said that it will monitor the progress of work relating to Ardh Kumbh Mela, scheduled to be held here in January 2019.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D B Bhosale and Justice Yashwant Varma also asked the to submit a status report on the work completed by various departments for the Ardh Kumbh within six weeks.

Additional Advocate General Ajit Kumar Singh informed the bench that UP Chief Minister recently laid down the foundation stone of various development projects and funds have also been released for the same.

However, A K Pandey, advocate for the petitioner, pointed out to the bench that no work has yet been started by any of the departments.

The matter has now been fixed for further hearing on October 25, 2017.

The Ardh Kumbh is a religious congregation held after every six years at Haridwar and where millions of people take a holy dip in the Ganga river.
