The Krishna District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) on Tuesday served notices on the Rajiv Gandhi University of Technologies, Nuzvid (IIIT), and the police in connection with ragging case reported on August 29. At least 22 final year engineering students of the IIIT were under scanner for allegedly indulging in ragging and attacking juniors. At least 11 students were injured in the incident triggering panic on the campus. The IIIT authorities are conducting an inquiry into the incident.
On Tuesday, DLSA Secretary P.R. Rajeev has served notices on IIT Director Veeranki Venkata Dasu and its Administrative Officer. A notice has also been served on Nuzvid Deputy Superintendent of Police V. Srinivas. “All the three officials have been directed to appear before the DLSA on October 5, to explain the reasons behind the ragging incidents,” Mr. Rajeev told The Hindu.
“We have come to know about the ragging activities in the IIIT, Nuzvid campus through media reports. We will address the issue to ensure a safe academic environment for the students,” Krishna District Judge Y. Lakshmana Rao said.
Notices to District Collector
DLSA has served notices on Krishna District Collector B. Lakshmikantam and the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation authorities to appear before the DLSA on October 4 in connection with inconvenience reported last week on Vijayawada city roads during the Indian Air Force recruitment rally. The Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner and the Police Commissioner have also been asked to appear before the DLSA over giving permission for the rally without assessing the traffic problem.
