The high-end fleet of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will get a boost with the state government set to add 121 new Volvo buses by December.
Transport Minister H M Revanna announced this on Wednesday after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah flagged of 23 such buses in front of the Vidhana Soudha.
“The tender process for acquisition of the buses was completed during the tenure of Ramalinga Reddy as Transport Minister. The new buses will add strength to Airavat Club Class. KSRTC has the distinction of being the first transport corporation to introduce Volvo BS-IV buses,” Revanna added.
Bengaluru Central and Mysuru will each get eight buses while the remaining seven will operate from Mangaluru division.
From Bengaluru, the buses will ply to Calicut, Kozhikode, Chennai, Vijayawada, Sriharikota, Manipal and Mangaluru.
Other routes include Mangaluru-Mumbai, Virajpet-Bengaluru, Madikeri-Bengaluru and Mysuru-Bengaluru.
On the occasion, Siddaramaiah also introduced a booklet on KSRTC’s achievements in the last four years.
