A remand prisoner escaped from the District Court premises after reportedly assaulting the head constable who was escorting him out of the court on Monday.
The incident was reported late in the night, as most of policemen were engaged in bandobust duty for the Chief Minister.
P. Suresh Kumar, accused in a 2015 rape case at Arilova, was brought to the District Mahila Court for hearing from the District Central Prison. After the hearing, while he was being taken to the police van he reportedly hit the head constable escorting him with the handcuff and escaped.
A case has been booked at the Two Town Police station and as per the inspector G.V. Ramana, two teams have been formed to trace the remand prisoner.
Apart from the rape case, the accused has a number of cases including assault cases pending against him.
