G. Ramakrishnan says BJP leaders made false promises on NEET

TIRUNELVELI

People would never pardon the State and Central governments for shattering the students’ dream of joining medical courses by introducing NEET, CPI (M) State secretary G. Ramakrishnan said on Wednesday.

Addressing an anti-NEET demonstration organised in Palayamkottai, he said the State and the Centre had shattered the hopes of MBBS aspirant Anitha. While 340 poor rural students, who studied in government schools, had joined medical colleges in the past 10 years, only five could achieve the feat this year.

The State government was forced to forward two Bills for the Centre’s nod following agitations, but the Centre let down the State when the case came up for hearing in the Supreme Court. The BJP leaders made false promises over NEET.

He charged that the Governor was acting like ‘BJP’s agent’ by not ordering a floor test in the Assembly in the wake of 19 MLAs backing T.T.V. Dhinakaran losing faith in the Chief Minister.

MLAs T.P.M. Mohideen Khan, A.L.S. Lakshmanan and Poongothai Aladi Aruna, former Speaker R. Avudaiyappan, former MLA M. Appavu and office-bearers of the Congress, CPI, CPI (M), Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, IUML, VCK, Aathi Thamizhar Peravai, Perunthalaivar Makkal Katchi and Dravidar Kazhagam participated in the demonstration.
