The strike call given by the junior doctors at the SVRR Government General Hospital, over the delay in payment of stipend, entered the third day here on Monday.
The members of the Junior Doctors’ Association (JUDA), for the past few days, have been protesting at the venue and alleged that interns recruited in April along with those whose interviews had been completed did not receive stipends for several months. No action was taken despite repeated complaints to the hospital’s superintendent, they said.
Strike notice
As a part of the strike, about 137 interns stayed away from their duties and criticised the hospital management for not making alternative arrangements even though they had served the strike notice well in advance.
The postgraduate students are also planning to stage a protest as their stipend has not been paid for the past three months and a hike is due since 2016.
Many left out
Despite the assurance of a senior official at the finance department to release the stipend, the members argued that the disbursement was limited to only 50 interns while there were 137 candidates.
They would call off the strike only when stipend for at least two months was released, the protesting medicos said.
