The Mahadayi water dispute with neighbouring Goa and Maharashtra can be solved in a day if Chief Minister Siddaramaiah cooperates, BJP national General Secretary in charge of Karnataka P Muralidhar Rao said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Rao said state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa was in touch with the chief ministers of Goa and Maharashtra but Siddaramaiah was yet to convince the opposition Congress leaders in the two neighbouring states to hold talks to resolve the dispute. “Siddaramaiah is not playing a constructive role. He only wants to play politics,” Rao charged.

However, he evaded a question on why BJP leaders are yet to meet chief ministers of Maharashtra and Goa to convince them to arrive at an amicable solution to the vexed river water dispute. “Yeddyurappa is in touch with them. If Siddaramaiah cooperates, BJP will resolve the issue that very evening” he said.
