Mandya man held for making hoax bomb call

The Central division police on Tuesday arrested a 22-year-old man from Mandya district on the charge of making a hoax bomb call to the city police helpline.

The arrested has been identified as Sridhar, a pre-university course dropout and native of Yadavahalli village in Maddur taluk of Mandya district. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Chandragupta said that Sridhar has confessed to making the hoax call. He has told the police that he wanted to get rid of his friends who were pestering him for repayment of the money he had borrowed from them. The police added that Sridhar was cheating people on the pretext of helping them get a government job.

Sridhar called the police helpline from his mobile phone on Monday morning introducing himself as Nagaraj and claimed that he had planted a bomb in Vidhana Soudha and Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium. Later, he switched off his phone. The police, who were tracking his phone, succeeded in nabbing him on Tuesday.

Police added that Sridhar had borrowed money from his friend Nagaraj and when he started demanding repayment, the former threatened to implicate Nagaraj in a case. The police are also checking the antecedents of Sridhar.

Meanwhile, the police let off three persons who were taken into custody on the suspicion of making the hoax bomb call on Monday.
