Cardamom futures gain 3 pc on spot demand

Press Trust of India  |  New Delhi

Cardamom prices rose 3 per cent to Rs 1,276.30 per kg in futures trade today as investors extended positions amid rise in physical demand for cardamom in the domestic spot market.

Besides, tight supplies from major producing regions, supported the upside in cardamom prices.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in the current month was trading higher by Rs 37.10, or 3 per cent, to Rs 1,276.30 per kg, with a trading volume of 9 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in October increased by Rs 36.30, or 3 per cent, to Rs 1,247.40 per kg in 134 lots.

Traders said widening of positions by participants, driven by surge in demand at the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions, mainly kept cardamom prices higher in futures trade.
