West Bengal CID today seized 43 kg of cannabis and arrested two persons from Nadia district's Chakdah for their alleged involvement in smuggling the drug, a senior police official said.
Acting on a tip-off, an anti-terrorism squad team of the state CID conducted a raid in the early hours of today on NH-34 near Chakdah Chowrastha More, and seized the drug from a vehicle and arrested the two, a senior officer of the agency said.
Haraprosad alias Debbasish Dutta and Ramprosad Dutta have been arrested after the cannabis were recovered from underneath the seat of the vehicle they were travelling in, he said.
"Both the persons have been arrested and booked under relevant sections of the IPC. We are looking into the matter and checking whether the duo are part of a gang or not," the official added.
