Darjeeling unrest: talks inconclusive

The second round of bipartite talks between the hill parties and the West Bengal government on Tuesday over the indefinite shutdown in the Darjeeling hills also remained inconclusive.

Calling Tuesday’s meeting positive, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “The festive season is knocking on the doors and all of us want peace to return to the hills. It is good that five hill parties participated in today’s meeting and have raised several issues.”

“It is a democratic country and in a democracy, everybody has the right to raise issues. Even we are also sensitive towards some of their demands,” Mamata added.
