Following the brutal murder of the seven-year-old student inside Ryan International School, Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (HSCPCR) officials on Monday directed the Education Department and the Child Welfare Committee members to ensure the implementation of various guidelines for the security and safety of children in schools under different Acts in a phased manner.
The district administration is likely to send notices to different schools in this connection on Tuesday.
Security committees
Holding the meeting at PWD Rest House here, HSCPCR member Balkrishan Goel directed the officials to ensure implementation of CBSE/Haryana State Education Board affiliation by-laws, rules under the Right to Education Act and the Guidelines for the Safety of Children in Schools drafted by the Gurugram Police in 2014.
The provisions laid down in Gurugram Police rules require setting up of security panels to be represented by parents and also define basic child safety protocols like who should have access to toilets.
Mr. Goel said that along with the provisions under the various Acts, the district administration has also been directed to implement the 21-point “Surakshit School Vahan Policy”.
“In the first phase, we would ensure CCTV cameras are installed, the police verification of all teachers and support staff is carried out and school management panels are constituted in all schools,” said Mr. Goel, adding that it would be completed in a fortnight.
