A colourful procession marked the conclusion of Onam celebrations at Thrikkakara on Monday.
Tableaux reflecting the spirit of Onam and traditional art and cultural events were showcased at the procession that began from Chembumukku.
Hundreds thronged the road leading to Kakkanad junction to watch the procession organised by the Thrikkakara municipality.
Art forms
The event, modelled on the popular Athachamayam at Thripunithura, witnessed the presence of Mahabalis being led by elephants and members of the pulikkali team. The legacy of Kathakali and Theyyam was also recreated at the procession. Some of the other highlights of the event included thattukavadi, kottakavadi, and Arjuna dance.
Dolak, pancharimelam, panchavadhyam, pambamelam, shingarimelam and band performance also attracted the attention of viewers. Kolkali and kalaripayattu were also part of the procession. Members of the Kudumbasree Mission and anganwadis joined the students and the general public in celebrating the event held at the abode of Onam celebrations. A cultural meet was also held at the District Collectorate parade ground marking the end of Onam celebrations.
