Convict killed inside Nagpur jail

Nagpur: A convict, serving life sentence for the murder of a child, was killed by a fellow inmate inside the Nagpur central prison on Monday.

Ayush Pugalia was convicted and sentenced to life in 2013 for the murder of an eight-year-old boy in Nagpur in 2011.

The inmate accused of killing Ayush was identified as Suraj Kotnake, who is also serving a life term in a murder case.

The police launched an investigation in the case after registered an offence in Dhantoli police station of Nagpur and suspect that the murder could be a fallout of an enmity between the two inmates.

However, Naveen Pugalia, brother of the deceased, alleged that his brother was killed “as a part of a conspiracy”.

Ayush had abducted the kid to demand ransom. However, he murdered him before receiving the money.

The murder has once again raised questions over the security arrangements inside the central jail, which also houses high profile convicts like Arun Gawli and former DU Professor G.N. Saibaba.

Earlier, in 2015, five inmates had managed to flee from the jail.
