Anticipatory bail plea to be heard by Bombay HC today

Two days after a seven-year-old was found with his throat slit inside the washroom at the Ryan International School in Gurugram, the school CEO and founders moved the Bombay High Court for a transit anticipatory bail.

‘Not present’

Augustine Pinto, who is the founding chairman and managing director of the school — along with his wife Grace Pinto and Ryan, who is the chairperson — have sought anticipatory bail through Advocate Niteen Pradhan. The pleas are based on the fact that they were not present at the school at the time of the incident.

The pleas were filed after the arrest of two officials from the school and will be heard before a single Bench of Justice A.S. Gadkari on Tuesday.

‘System in place’

The Class II student was found in the washroom of the school with his throat slit on September 9. The bus conductor has been arrested in the case.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the Centre and the CBI on a plea filed by the student’s father. The Mumbai Police said there is already a system in place to make sure that adequate measures are undertaken by schools in the city to prevent exploitation of students in the school premises, which is enforced by police stations. This includes making sure students are safe at all times and conducting background checks on school employees.

“We are asking police stations to check whether guidelines are being followed,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Deven Bharti.
