JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda on Tuesday warned the party leaders of stern action if they fail to involve themselves in strengthening the party ahead of the Assembly elections.

Addressing the newly appointed office-bearers and the legislators of the JD(S) here, Gowda said he will not hesitate to expel those who fail to follow the party’s diktat.

Those who use the party’s visiting cards to further their own “agendas” and fail to perform their duties, will be removed immediately, he warned.

He also told the office-bearers to work relentlessly for the next eight months. “I have vowed to bring the JD(S) back to power. Though both the BJP and the Congress are continuously trying to trample upon the JD(S), I will not let that happen. I am certain we will emerge victorious - Kumaraswamy has the commitment,” he said.

Taking exception to the non-formation of booth committees in all the Assembly constituencies, despite instructions being given four months ago, Gowda said that he would not entertain any more excuses.

Kumaraswamy said that the office-bearers should help realise Gowda’s “unfinished agenda” of empowering the farming community. “I too have vowed that I will help him realise his dream. But it is not possible only by me. People are today coming and taking selfies with me. But, this should translate into votes. Your efforts and sacrifices are imperative,” he said.
