SC for display of community fireworks

The Supreme Court on Tuesday favoured display of fireworks through community participation instead of the individual bursting of crackers during Diwali and Dussehra festivals.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta preferred to have a graded regulation instead of prohibition while hearing a plea by Delhi kids on worsening air quality after Diwali in Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR).

It temporarily modified its earlier order suspending the permanent licences for sale of fire crackers in NCR, saying a complete ban would be an “extreme step” to curb pollution caused by them.
