Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday defended Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's remarks on 'dynasty politics' and said that there were several examples of the dynasty in politics not only in India but also in other countries in the world.

''We have many examples in history where people adopted the profession owing to family background,'' Akhilesh, who is the member of one of India's biggest political family, told reporters here.

He also cited the example of the USA, where he said the wife (Hilary Clinton) of a former president ran for the presidency while the son of another former president (George H W Bush) also went on to occupy the top post.

Akhilesh said that Rahul was his friend and reiterated that his party's alliance with the Congress would continue.

Rahul had while speaking at the University of California, Berkeley recently said that India runs on dynasty politics. His remarks invited flak from the BJP.
