As part of an ongoing public art campaign, the boundary walls of the Government Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Janakpuri have got a bright makeover.
Colourful murals on the themes of conservation, sanitation, importance of education and gender equality were painted on the walls to spread awareness about the issues.
Students and teachers of the school, local volunteers, and artists from Delhi Street Art, an organisation working to promote art in public spaces, painted about a dozen panels on Sunday and Monday, Delhi Street Art founder Yogesh Saini said.
Across the city
“Other than making public spaces more attractive and cleaner so that people stop littering around them, our basic aim is to create awareness,” said Mr. Saini.
As part the project, the organisation recently painted walls at slum schools in Madanpur Khadar and Sangam Vihar, a government school in Aya Nagar, an NGO-run school in Gurugram and also a free school under the bridge at Akshardham.
Last week, the walls of a school in Nangloi were painted with messages on women’s empowerment.
With a twist
The government’s Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative is shown “with a twist”, said Mr. Saini.
One of the messages, with a painting of boxer Mary Kom, said “Beti padhao, champion banao” and another one with a painting of IPS officer Kiran Bedi said “Beti padhao, officer banao”.
