India finishes seventh

MUMBAI: The India under-17 boys team finished seventh at the Youth Olympic Games Rugby Sevens Qualifiers at Tainan, Chinese Taipei.

Japan won the title defeating Thailand 43-0 in the final of the tournament in which 10 Asian national teams took part. Chinese Taipei beat Malaysia 40-7 for the third spot.

After losses against heavyweights Malaysia, Hong Kong and the host, India, led by Narasing Mandi, defeated UAE, lost to the Philippines and secured the seventh place by getting past Laos. The Indian team took part under the aegis of Indian Rugby Football Union (IRFU) and was supported by Societe Generale.

The results:

Malaysia bt India 55-0; Hong Kong bt India 31-5; Chinese Taipei bt India 40-5; India bt UAE 24-7; Philippines bt India 29-5; India bt Laos 24-5.
