Two days after meeting the Tamil Nadu governor to give orders for floor test in the Assembly, the opposition DMK on Tuesday filed a case in the Madras High Court seeking directions to convene special assembly session and ask Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to prove his majority.
DMK working president M K Stalin said that that the party also prayed the court to appoint an independent observer to supervise the floor test.
"We also asked the court to direct the AIADMK government not to take any major policy decision pending disposal of the petition", he added.
On Sunday Stalin led a team also comprising leaders from the opposition parties and urged the governor to convene the state assembly within a week so that the Palaniswami government can prove its majority.
Stalin also claimed that it was necessary to convene the assembly when doubts were raised that the government fell short of the majority.
"Palaniswami government have the support of only 114 MLAs", he said adding "therefore, of the 233 legislators in the House, the rest 119 MLAs were against his government", he added.
