
KOLKATA: BJP president Amit Shah today paid floral tributes to Swami Vivekananda to mark the Sanyasi’s 125th year famous address at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago, USA, and told the workers to follow the path of ” Karmayogi”.
Mr Shah, arrived in the city late last night on a three-day tight schedule to bolster the party functionaries with eyes on state Panchayat polls in 2018 and general elections in 2019, reached the ancestral home of Swami Vivekanda at Shimla Street in central Kolkata this morning and paid floral tributes to the statue of disciple of Ramakrishna Paramhans.
The party followers accorded Mr Shah a traditional welcome amidst blowing of conch shells and showering petals on him at the airport last night and then he was driven to Kolkata Port Trust guest house in south Kolkata.
However, some workers following the convoy on way to guest house were attacked by some unidentified miscreants, alleged BJP’s youth wing Debjit Sarkar.
He said around 2400 hours the miscreants attacked four cars at the end of the convoy near the 7 point area of Park Circus and beat up the workers after them from the cars. Mr Sarkar alleged that the goons belonged to the ruling party of TMC,
The BJP workers also had organised a protest demonstration near Exide More in the night.
Mr Shah has tight scheduled programme to bolster the party functionaries by meeting at different parts of the city.
Mr Shah also has planned to dine with some party followers at Bhawanipur, the assembly constituency of TMC chief and Chief Minster Mamata Banerjee in next two days.
Mr Shah had also held some dining with party followers at Chetla in south Kolkata and in north Bengal during his last visit in April.
The BJP today across the state is celebrating the 125th Chicago speech day across the state.
