A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 38-year-old peon at her school in east Delhi on Saturday afternoon. The accused, Vikas, has been arrested, said the police.
The girl, a Class I student at a private school, reached home around 2.15 p.m. that day and the mother noticed bloodstains on her dress. She later complained of pain and her family later noticed blood coming from her private parts. The girl was taken to a hospital by her parents.
Medical examination suggested sexual assault and the police were informed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahadara) Nupur Prasad said the girl told the family and the police about the ordeal and also shared a description of the culprit.
No action taken
The girl, meanwhile, said that she had gone to a teacher, complained of pain and told her that Vikas had assaulted her. However, the teacher allegedly merely said “Main peetungi usko [I will hit him]” and chose to do little else. The family later alleged that the teacher tried to coax them and the girl into not naming the school.
“Based on the description, the school’s peon Vikas was apprehended and he was identified by the child,” said Ms. Prasad. The police said that Vikas was immediately arrested and a case was registered under Section 376 (punishment for rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik has directed District DCPs to contact school authorities in their respective areas to enhance security.
They have been advised to get the security audit of their jurisdiction done. They have also been asked to ensure installation of CCTV cameras at all vulnerable points in the school apart from ensuring police verification of the staff employed.
