Inside American Beauty NYC, where it smells like pizza and “No Smoking of Any Kind - Management” signs hang on the wall, Lil Yachty is standing next to one of the seven models he helped choose on platforms sporting his new Lil Yachty Collection by Nautica.

The collaboration hits stores in November, and its 19 retro-looking pieces feel like they could’ve been your favorite clothes growing up. In fact, if you are in your 20s, they might have been. All of the items in the group reference pieces from Nautica’s 1990s archives. There are fleece vests with large N logos in yellow on the chest, reversible bucket hats, and red and green letterman jackets displaying Nautica Sailing Team on the back.

The green fleece jacket is also one of Lil Yachty’s favorite pieces in the collection (“The colorway—it's dope.”), and he says varsity jackets “just give me a '90s vibe. They remind me of high school." I ask him if he thinks it’s a trend we're going to start to see more. "I don't know," he says. "I'm not a designer, bro. I just have my own style. I don't know what people are doing. I do me."

And as far as his future plans go, Lil Yachty mentions acting in movies, and releasing new music. But before our interview ends, he has one final thought about the new line. “I hope people like it.”
