While voices of #NotInMyName echoed in the streets of Old Delhi, various other activities urged the people to express their resistance in harmony.

The event took place in an amphitheatre on the streets of Old Delhi. Indu Prakash Singh, an activist and one of the organisers of the #NotInMyName protest, said, “While spreading awareness and showcasing such programmes we generally miss out on such highly populated central locations of Delhi, but essentially our work should start here.”

Lauds CM

The activist added, “The Delhi government has been great — right from helping us clear this place to not charging a single penny as rent. [Chief Minister] Arvind [Kejriwal] has done his bit for us.”

The cultural programme started with an energetic performance by a band named Anuragi, with most people demanding modern ‘Azadi anthems’.

Rajesh Anuragi, the band’s lead singer, said, “In today’s world where even saying freedom ignites a fire of chaos in our society, I don’t know whether we should believe in God but we should definitely believe in humanity.”

‘Easy choices’

Television journalist Vinod Dua, who participated in the protest, said, “I have always made easy choices and have had a comfortable life, but if we are quiet now we will have to be quiet forever.”
