Israel is helping India in revolutionising its farming practices by sharing knowledge and technologies.

As part of its activities in south India, the Consulate General of Israel in Bengaluru, along with Mashav, Israel’s agency for international development cooperation, is planning to hold a two-day Indo-Israel floriculture seminar under Indo-Israel Agriculture Project at IIAP CoE (Centre of Excellence) at Thally in Krishnagiri district, Tamil Nadu, on September 12 and 13.

Value chain

Floriculture is an important segment under the Indo-Israel Agricultural Project through which IIAP aims to develop a strong and relevant value chain to benefit farmers. The value chain includes nursery management, demonstrations of best practices in cultivation and focus on irrigation and fertigation guidelines.

The CoE at Thally is the first centre for floriculture under IIAP becoming fully active. Consul General of Israel Dana Kursh and Dan Alluf, Mashav Counsellor from the Embassy of Israel, Delhi, will address the seminar.

Israeli experts

The seminar will have Israeli experts Loir Avraham Expert (vegetables) and Gideon Luria expert (floriculture) training the farmers on agricultural methods and practices. They will also focus on introducing geophyte plants, nursery propagation, irrigation, pest and disease management and training on post-harvest for all floriculture segments.

In accordance with the Agriculture Cooperation Agreement signed between the two countries in 2008, the Indo-Israel agriculture cooperation projects are in various stages of implementation in 10 States.
