Govt school kids get free books

Kalpa Trust and Kavoor first grade college had recently organised a free note book distribution event at the Nalyapadavu government school, recently. The event was inaugurated by Raj B Shetty, director of ‘Ondu Motteya Kathe’ (OMK).
Notebooks worth Rs 58,000 were distributed to students by Raj Shetty and Kavoor first grade college Principal U Tara Rao.
Speaking at the event, he said that he was pleased to know that the school was also known as the ‘Kuvempu’ School, and that he was a big fan of Kuvempu’s writings. “All the characters in ‘Ondu Motte Kathe’ (OMK), were inspired by Kuvempu. Kuvempu’s ability to treat all the characters equally in his writings, inspired me,” he added.
Mischievous students in the class deserve more attention, as many of them grow to make their teachers proud with their achievements. “Teachers have a capacity to mar or build lives of students,” he said.
Donors who had come forward to donate the note books including Jayashree, Mallika, Saritha, Usha Jaya Poojary and Sandesh of Sandesh enterprises were felicitated on the occasion. Kuvempu School Head Mistress Udaya Kumar was also present on the occasion.
Solar panel inaugurated
Shaktinagar corporator, Akhila Alva inaugurated the 3 KW roof top solar panel installed at the Kuvempu school. The rooftop solar panel was installed with funds released by Chief Whip in Legislative Council Ivan D’souza.
Addressing the gathering Ivan D’souza said such roof-top solar power panels have been installed in 50 schools. “The power generated from the solar rooftop panel is sufficient to provide hot drinking water to students and save on electricity.
The power generated on days when schools are closed should be dispatched to MESCOM’s grid. The revenue generated from selling power to MESCOM can be utilised for organising sports meets among others,” he said.
