You know coal is back in demand when there is a rise in seizures of illegal coal transit. Post the heavy rains, demand for coal has risen and so has its illegal consignments. In Jharkhand, the government set the cat among pigeons by registering an FIR in a coal smuggling case in which the police has named more than 20 businessmen. This has caused huge embarrassment to the Jharkhand Industry and Trade Association as several of its office-bearers have been named in the FIR. Representatives of the association plan to meet the chief minister, but such a meeting could be tricky for the latter.
