KOCHI: In a rare match-making effort, Palakkad-based Deaf Bint Movement organised a meeting of young men and women from the community and their relatives at Shikshak Bhavan on Karikkamuri Crossroads here on Saturday.
Men and women with hearing and speech impairment communicated with one another using sign language, while the more tech-savvy ones video-chatted at the get-together, the fourth such programme organised by the movement in the State.
“We held three such meetings in Palakkad and were able to facilitate 12 couples forge matrimonial alliances.
That was when some community members told us about the difficulty they faced in finding suitable partners in the Ernakulam region.
That prompted us to hold a meet here too,” said Babu Suresh, adviser to the movement.
