fresh talent: Arslan Goni
Bollywood has a fresh face! Getting ready to play the main lead in the film ‘Jai Aur Jia’ is Arslan Goni from Kashmir. Coming from a family of lawyers and high ranked government officials, he grew up witnessing every bit of volatility in the region.
Over the years, Arslan has chosen to wear his heart on his sleeve and widen his horizons instead.
He talks to Anila Kurian about how he made it to the film industry and what he looks forward to the most.
We heard that you actually came to Mumbai for something else...
Oh, gosh! This story is going to haunt me forever, but here it is. I came here for my girlfriend at the time but that didn’t work out. That’s when I realised that I wanted to join the film industry and stayed back.
You’re playing the lead in your debut movie...
Yes, I’m very excited to a part of ‘Jia Aur Jia’ with Kalki Koechlin. The film is set to release later this year.
Is there any real life similarity to the character you play?
Not at all! My character is a rich, spoilt brat who lives in his own world. He’s also an alcoholic while I don’t drink at all. But it was fun playing someone who is nothing like you are.
Have you signed any other films?
I am already shooting for my second film in Rajasthan. The character is that of a small town guy who has big dreams and ambitions.
What do you enjoy the most on the sets?
The fact that I’m on the sets! I love the commotion there and how so many are working in that chaotic world to make it a beautiful one. The filmmaking process is absolutely wonderful.
A few years down the line, what kind of actor do you want to be known as?
I know it’s too soon for me to say this but I’d like to be a complete actor. I prefer good content so I hope to choose projects that are interesting for everyone.
With several other newcomers trying to make their mark, what are you going to do to stand out?
I don’t think I’m doing anything extra compared to the others but I know that I am doing what I love doing.
Even if it is a short film, I am completely involved and try to learn as much as I can on the go. I like to focus on the craft and not just come in for the shot and leave.
