Powerful presence
Choosy: Gautam Rode
Actor Gautam Rode is still remembered for his character, Saraswatichandra Vyas, in the television soap ‘Saraswatichandra’. It was the role that catapulted him to fame.
He was once again noticed for his exemplary performance in Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Agyaat’. After anchoring two seasons of ‘Nach Baliye’ and hosting ‘India’s Got Talent’ over the last couple of years, Gautam has now bagged a meaty role in ‘Aksar 2’.
In an interview with Nina C George, the actor talks about his role in ‘Aksar 2’ and his other works.
Tell us about your role in ‘Aksar 2’?
I play an investment banker who sees an opportunity in a situation and takes charge. It is only when he gets into the actual situation does he realise that it is not as simple as he thought it would be. How he works around this complicated situation and what follows forms the crux of the story.
How many shades do you have to your character?
I have more than one shade to my character. The role that I play in ‘Aksar2’ is more real and relatable than any other character that I have worked on before.
How does it feel to do films after a long gap?
It feels good. I always prefer to work on one project at a time and I don’t take on too much work. My role in ‘Aksar2’ is a welcome change after my rather intense performance in ‘Saraswatichandra’ and ‘Agyaat’. I find the characterisation and plot of ‘Aksar2’ very different.
What do you enjoy the most, acting or anchoring?
I enjoy acting because I get to explore different characters. So far, I have managed to play very different kind of roles. I hope that trend continues.
One thing that you can’t resist...
I can never resist a good role. My role in ‘Saraswatichandra’ changed a lot of things for me, both on the personal and professional front. I want to be remembered for my work.
How do you handle failures?
Failures are bound to happen. It depends on how you handle it. You can either choose to brood over it or snap out of it and move on. I always choose the latter. I also believe that one should never let success get to one’s head. It is best to keep your head on your shoulder and move on.
What is your next project?
I have not signed anything because I want to concentrate on one project at a time.
Does it pay to be so choosy?
It’s not good to be choosy but this is the way I am. I pick and choose my projects.
Your biggest support system...
My family because they stand by me through thick and thin. They make sure that I don’t lose focus.
How do you manage to stay fit?
I started concentrating on building my strength and fitness when I was 16. I am addicted to fitness. To stay fit, one doesn’t need to draw inspiration from outside but from within.
