The demand for dental education appears to be slowing as there were few takers during the mop-up round of seat selection conducted by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) on Friday.
Only 36 out of 1,411 seats have been allotted even though private colleges almost halved the fee to attract students. While AME Dental College, Raichur, reduced the fee from Rs 4.29 lakh to Rs 3 lakh, KVG Dental College, Sullia, Dakshina Kannada, slashed it to Rs 2.22 lakh from Rs 4.2 lakh. Several other colleges also slashed the fee.
The KEA has surrendered the remaining 1,375 seats to colleges. The deadline for applying for these seats is Sunday.
