The GST council, meeting here on Saturday, is likely to take up fixing of tax anomalies on a number of common use items as well as the quantum of cess to be hiked on luxury and mid-size cars. It will also take up IT related issues in the GST network which has faced glitches. The Council, chaired by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and comprising his state counterparts, is likely to consider lowering tax rates on over two dozen products, including idli/dosa batter, dried tamarind, custard powder and kitchen gas lighter after anomalies in their fixations were pointed out.

Madison Keys will play Sloane Stephens in the US Open final. A ruthless Keys crushed CoCo Vandeweghe 6-1 6-2 on Thursday setting the stage for an all-American US Open final. Sloane Stephens beat ninth seed Venus Williams 6-1 0-6 7-5 in an earlier roller-coaster clash. It will be the first time two American women have played for the title since 2002 when Venus lost 6-4 6-3 to her younger sister Serena Williams.

Starting Saturday, Air India will operate thrice-a-week flights between Bhopal and Hyderabad via Raipur. The flight would take off at 6.10 am from Hyderabad Airport and reach Raipur at 7.50 am. It would land in Bhopal at 9.45 am after taking off at 8.15 am from Raipur. In return journey, it will take off from Bhopal at 10.10 am and reach Raipur at 11.40 am. It would reach Hyderabad at 1.45 pm after taking off at 12.05 pm from Raipur.

Trade ministers of 16 RCEP countries, including India and China, will meet on Sunday in Manila to take stock of the negotiations for a mega agreement. Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership is a mega trade pact among 16 countries which aims to cover goods, services, investments, economic and technical cooperation, competition and intellectual property rights. This meeting is crucial as several issues related to goods are yet to be resolved. Indian industry and exporters are apprehensive about the presence of China in the grouping. They have stated that lowering or eliminating duties for China may flood Indian markets with Chinese goods.

In a bid to reach out to the party's young supporters in poll-bound Gujarat, the BJP's youth wing will organise an interactive session in Ahmedabad, to be addressed by party chief Amit Shah. The event, being organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha or BJYM, is likely to see over one lakh participants, who will interact directly with Mr Shah through video-conferencing facilities to be provided across 100 centres in the state. Gujarat Assembly elections are set to take place by the year end.
