The Haryana police on Saturday arrested Chamkaur Singh, who is facing allegations of inciting violence and attempting to ensure the escape of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in Panchkula on August 25, after the latter was convicted in a rape case.
The Special Investigation Team probing the incident has also arrested two other accused, Karamjeet Singh and Daan Singh, also facing charges for their alleged role in hatching a conspiracy to free Gurmeet Singh from the Panchkula court complex and inciting violence.
Haryana’s Panchkula witnessed widespread deadly violence by Dera followers after Gurmeet Singh’s conviction, leaving 35 people dead and over 250 injured. Six people died in Sirsa.
The police said it had arrested Chamkaur Singh, who was Dera Sacha Sauda’s Panchkula district in-charge and Daan Singh from Chandigarh while Karamjeet Singh, a Punjab Police commando was arrested from Patiala.
Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Manbir Singh told reporters that the three accused would be now produced in the court.
