Instead of fleeing the scene of crime, the accused, Ashok Kumar, 42, helped the teachers carry the child’s body to the bus in an attempt to avoid suspicion, said the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Simardeep Singh disclosed that the accused stayed around the washroom after the attack and helped the staff who took the child’s body to the hospital.

Kumar had been working as a bus conductor at the school for the last eight months. The officer said it was yet to be ascertained whether his police verification was done at the time of hiring.

No criminal record

Mr. Singh said that there was no evidence of Kumar’s involvement in any other criminal case, but he would be taken in police remand for further investigation into the case. According to the officer, circumstantial evidence, CCTV footage and statements of two students indicated Kumar’s involvement in the case.

The victim's family hails from Madhubani district of Bihar. Both the deceased and his elder sister, around 11-year-old, were studying in Ryan International School. The last rites of the boy will be performed on Saturday.
